Hello, couple days back I tested War Thunder on Linux since it has a native port. It ran mostly fine, but I was disappointed to see that the performance was significantly worse than on Windows, given they’re both native ports with no compatibility layers.
My primary problems are frequent dips from 60 to 55-56 FPS when panning the camera around along with more harsh FPS drops when shooting an enemy tank, very minor graphical artifacts to do with color(can ignore that tbh) and that my PC seems to be more stressed than usual, GPU fans regularly ramp up to max on War Thunder Linux while on Windows they very rarely do that - both operating systems had the exact same up to date drivers and graphics settings. These problems sound very minor, but the game doesn’t feel smooth at all compared to my experience with WT on Windows…
What gives? Could it be that the Linux version simply isn’t made as well as the Windows version? This game is why I’m hesistant to stay on Linux, since I paid for a premium account on this game and it’s a shame it doesn’t run as well.
Running the game with Proton didn’t work at all, the game crashes to desktop as soon as I get to the hangar along with major graphical artifacts.
My main specs:
CPU: i5-7500
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660ti
RAM: 16GB
Distros I tested on were openSUSE Tumbleweed and Linux Mint 21.2, both had identical performance.
The Feral Ports and anything that uses vulkan are the exception any other game is getting forced proton
