Am I going crazy of has the amount of anti-EV “articles” started to skyrocket. Just today, I’ve seen a “Why I’m not buying an EV” concern article, some accusing Biden of killing EVs, “The true costs of buying an EV,” and my favorite: “Study: The True Cost of Charging an EV: $17/gallon.” (That study was funded by Exxon Mobil, lol).
What’s going on? Why is all the EV hate in the media ramping up?

What’s going on? Why is all the EV hate in the media ramping up?

With major incumbents such as Ford and GM pulling back on EV goals, it is plausible that the increase in anti-EV propaganda is a combination of multiple factors:

    • Long-term adversaries striking when the industry is perceived as weak. The oil industry, anti-EV pundits, people with short positions on EV companies, etc.
    • The incumbent OEMs may be fomenting some anti-EV sentiment to prop up the ICE market that they are leaning on more than planned for the foreseeable future. An effort to stem the hemorrhaging of sales to pure EV competitors (Tesla, Rivian, etc.)
    • Media doing what media does: get clicks with negative press. Where they have historically enjoyed getting clicks from anti-Tesla articles, they see an opportunity to broaden the click farming via general anti-EV articles.

I’m often surprised that this subreddit insatiably eats up anti-Tesla media propaganda, but then bristles when the same media turns to general anti-EV propaganda. Suddenly, the reaction changes, and the propaganda is unfounded and worthy of criticism. The lack of introspection is disappointing.
