Bear with me as this is my first post but I needed to get some outside opinions. I get it hasn’t been very long since its release but I can’t help but hate everything about it. Below are my main reasonings as to why but I’m really curious, what do you guys think about Quickplay?

It’s been four days since the quickplay game mode was released and I’m certain to say I’m ready to never play it again. I’ve been playing since s4 currently sitting at emerald 3 and I don’t often lose this much in pubs let alone in a beginner friendly game mode environment but after losing every single game I’ve played so far (7 currently) I can’t help but feel as if the game mode itself is inherently nerfing my ability to win games. Here’s what I’ve come to a conclusion about:

1) Quickplay is Not Rebranded Blind Pick: I believe its fairly common knowledge for players that blind pick is the noob playground and more often than not if you or your stack wanted to have an easy game you could find it there. Therefore because blind pick was removed I assumed quickplay would embody what its predecessor had while incorporating QOL changes and to be fair a lot of the changes I do appreciate but I feel robbed of what I was expecting it to be given what it actually turned out to be. While blind pick did have its issues ( Role selection being a typing race was really the only one ) it served a purpose and had identity compared to other game modes , quickplay’s only unique feature is the ability to avoid champion select which I’d argue hinders your ability to win more than being a novelty.

2) No Champion Select, Bad Role Selection & Queues: Time and time again fundamental issues are covered with unnecessary new mechanics that no one asked for. Queue times have been and most likely will continue to be atrocious both for high elo players and the casual gamer, getting rid of champion select does not solve the issue but hinders many roles/players abilities to play the game. For example, ~50% of top lane is getting the counter pick - not having the option to see who you’d be playing against let alone the team your facing leaves you in RNG’s fate if you win or lose before the game starts. I understand quickplays intention does follow casual guidelines but more on that later in the post. What is the point of having a second role option if I have to select a low priority role every time? Right now quickplay is at its peak player base and yet every game I’m having to select an off role that I’m not comfortable with because there’s player shortage? This is more of a personal gripe but It’s irritating when I’m used to drafts autofill system and although it’s issues are fixable Riot decides to blow steam up their *** and vomit out whatever this game mode is. Lastly, Quickplay is just simply not quick, out of 7 games ( some were duo and trio ) my average queue time was 5 minutes. Comparatively, draft pick whether it be with players or solo queue averages 2 to 3 minutes occasionally not even hitting a minute.

3) AFKS/Trolls Short Games: Nearly every single game I’ve played since release both on my own and enemy teams there has been a griefer intentionally ruining the game for everyone. Toxicity/Trolls as a whole is an entire issue in itself but from personal experience there are far too many in my games for me not to conclude on some correlation. Additionally the game are INCREDIBLY SWEATY - I feel as if I’m playing harder in quickplay than ranked either because I’m carrying my team or there’s some master rank player on the enemy team 1v9ing. I can appreciate a hard earned loss/win every once in a while but if this is supposed to be where casual players go to this game mode is surely on its way to the grave. Another personal gripe I have is the game length; why would Riot increase game length in most recent patch just to promote a game mode that sells the idea of a short game when in reality its either a stomping ff or an unenjoyable contest between try hards. Whenever I play league I set aside the next 30-40 minutes because I know that’s how long the games can take, I figure most people do the same so it doesn’t make sense to me why they’re selling this falsity instead of continuing with what’s worked and improving on it. Don’t most people enjoy late game over early game too?

TLDR: Quickplay goes against a lot of what makes 5v5 league great already and by trying so hard to solve fundamental issues it inherently ends up hurting its popularity, success, and growth. Do yourself a favor and just play draft pick, you’ll save yourself the headache.
