Okay everyone, circle around for my opinion. I know, I know… opinions are like a**holes - everybody’s got one. But that’s what this site is for, the grand void to contain our collective musings about or most loved and hated team.
To cut to the heart of the issue, after listening all day to every talking head, podcaster, radio hosts and so forth rant and rave about the Jets I came to a brief summation of my own thoughts and feelings on the matter. The Jets are now 4-5, they are NOT the worst team in the division (Patriots) they are certainly capable of winning games and are not even the worst team in NY (poor Giants). The other two teams (Bills and Phins) in the division teeter from wins to losses easily, they are not invincible.
However, the next two weeks are MUST win games for the Jets, not only for playoff hopes but for the hopes that Rodgers comes back week 15 or 16. The week 11 matchup against the Bills has to be the marquee win for the Jets, it is the fulcrum point at which the Jets can get back into playoff contention, and in my opinion it is a winnable game. We will have to see how tonight’s game goes for the Bills but their team is beat up on Defense and Josh Allen likes to play Superman with the football often and thusly is prone to turnovers. The Jets Defense can keep it a close game. The offense definitely needs work, we all know it.
This week if I am coaching the team I am putting all the TE with the O-Line all week to work on blocking, and LEARNING the difference between a block and a hold. I know it’s pop Warner level stuff but apparently they need some remediation in the pros these days. The O-Line coach should give recommendations on who are the best TE blockers on the team and the rest (Uzomah for sure) need to stay off the field during run blocking plays.
Secondly, the OC needs to stack play action and QB bootlegs, designed QB runs, draws, RPO, and hell even triple option out the wazoo. Get Zach in space and just have him run, we know he’s pretty quick on his feet, we saw him run the ball fairly well yesterday and make people miss, build on that! We don’t care about keeping him bubble wrapped at this point, we can and should be playing aggressively and pushing his ability (though limited) as a double threat QB.
Finally, I know that many of you are baying for Zach’s blood and maybe we should start another QB, do I think that will happen? No, I don’t, I’m pretty sure Zach will start next week. Is it right or wrong? I don’t know. But I trust Saleh, I believe that if he wanted the QB to change he’d make it so; I’ll back him up either way.
In conclusion, is the season lost? Should we write it off as another “same old Jets” lackluster year? No. I didn’t hear no bell and neither did this team. I’ll admit, I’m a typical jaded and cynical Jets fans who expects the worst and hopes for passable; I’ve been frustrated and disappointed as any fan would be. But every time, just when I think I’m out - the Jets find a way to pull me back in. So next Sunday, let’s cheer for this team to turn it around, beat the Bills in a big way and roll them up into the Dolphin pretenders on Black Friday, I’ll be there for that game losing my voice I’m sure. LET’S GO JETS. JTFU. AGNB.
Stop doing this to yourselves. Our season ended 4 plays in. We have an offense that is historically awful in certain areas. Our o line is bad and injured. We have one receiver that can catch. Our QB is a bust.
Just stop. It’s over. Looking ahead to next season, there’s plenty to be excited about. We need to have a conversation about the coaching staff (including Saleh), get a reliable WR2, fortify the o line, and get a high level backup QB. All things that will be doable this offseason. The defense will be able to stay mostly in tact. But this year? They’re not good enough. They’re just not. Stop looking at playoff seeding scenarios.
I disagree with you. In my opinion, true fans don’t just quit when the chips are down and write the team off halfway through the season.
The Jets have been underdogs for years which is why I love this team, hoping for the best performance is part of the fun.
This is sport, there will always be adversity, and if you say you’re only a fan when it’s all sunshine and rainbows - you’re not, you’re just joining the bandwagon.
You want to turn your back on the team now, go right ahead, just know that you’ll be a fraud when you come back after they start winning.
