These last two games are full indication that we need a new slot who can actually get open. Other teams look at two players on our offense, Sutton and vonte. They cover Sutton and load the box. No other wr gets open —> Russ has to hold trying buy time for the others and the oline gets beat and sack/hold. By no means am i saying the oline is great penalties are BAAD. But theyre holding up against pretty damn good pass rush. Mims is nice but hes deep threat, Sutton is red zone. Missing dulchich is really screwing us, we need someone to fill that roll as a wr2/wr1 and we need one that can get open.
Sutton is really good in the slot playing more of a Larry Fitz/Keenan Allen kinda role. So maybe another way of saying this is that mims and Jeudy need to step up as deep threats and zone beaters.
Sutton is better in the x role but his primary work is red zone we saw with that slant he isn’t the slot guy. He’s a yac guy and 5050.
