Being hated is a part of being the most popular team in America. We are America’s Team, for god sake. But every Cowboys fan knows just how odd it’s gotten over the years, to the point where media and other fans refuse to give our players credit for anything and constantly detract them because of the star on the helmet, claiming it’s something else.
Micah definitely started the pushback on his podcast, and this season, I’m noticing a shift in the media and fan perspective. Even on social media, I’m beginning to see anti-Cowboys fans in the comments of posts get called out more for just hating the Cowboys blindly. I’ve never seen it in previous seasons.
I’m more than willing to bet if Dak put up the numbers he did yesterday against NY in 2022 or 2021, the “it’s just the Giants!” comments would be everywhere. But…they’re not? I see them, but the overall discourse has been the most positive I’ve seen in a while.
I might just be suffering from confirmation bias, and my example is tainted by how Dak’s generally been on a tear since the bye week. But has anyone else noticed this at all?
When you have media and casual fans calling them “America’s Team” for decades it’s always going to be an issue.
Couple that with the lack of success since the last SB and I think it rubs people the wrong way.
There are Cowboys fans everywhere. It’s a thing. Every team plays Dallas tougher than they do others.
If you want to be the man, you have to step and go get a SB ring. No one out there is going to sympathize with it. And Jerry never shutting the F up doesn’t help either.
