the long and winding road…

summer ‘24 we’ll see a new deck, too soon to jump on this update if you are a current owner imo

on the switch, I didn’t hesitate to upgrade…but that is a system where an OLED makes first party games especially pop

when I saw the non-hdr, lcd screen running Hogwart’s where you are standing on the cliff in the beginning … or The Last of Us where the daylight is fading as you reach Boston… my jaw was on the floor

I personally feel that the LCD is still very impressive and can sustain until the next major deck upgrade

Particularly in horror games, which I play a lot of, I know that a crisp color spectrum that an OLED would contribute would deter from the grittiness of those games

I have this personal belief (and many will disagree I am sure) that gaming doesn’t need to be “perfect” or even as-good-as-possible…

I own a 4k tv and a 1080p projector. I play spider-man 2 on the projector and once the game immerses you, the lack of 4k quickly fades away

the current lcd on the deck is STUNNING if you tinker a bit per game with contrast/brightness - and while not quite OLED quality, still gets the job done imo

I certainly won’t judge anyone making the jump, but the current screen, I feel, is good enough - if not GREAT enough - to bridge the gap

also, I acknowledge that the OLED can be a dramatic improvement in some games as I have gamed on OLEDs, and yes, they are very nice
