As far back as I can remember, Ravens have used a committee at running back with Lamar Jackson taking a fair portion of running plays. I think Ray Rice might have been the last time they didn’t have a committee.
Even when Dobbins was around, they had a committee. I can see Mitchell usurping Hill, but he’s a rookie and a lot of good teams don’t entrust rookies with that much responsibility especially in their first year. While RBs in general can be plug and play, good teams with good QBs usually start veteran RBs. Ahem like Gus Edwards.
I don’t see Mitchell as Achane level production given the committee and given the anti-rookie bias and Lamar Jackson taking a bunch of runs and redzone looks. Mitchell in my eyes is more like Kareem Hunt, still good, i.e. a second RB that gets usage, but not a league winner.
His explosiveness and ability to put up huge runs gives the Ravens RB room a breath of fresh air and catches opposing defences off guard. Honestly it’s nice to see RBs get some love after what happened in the preseason with RB situation around the league. Committees are horrible for fantasy, the Gus Edwards on my roster can testify. But I’m happy for these rookie RBs in general that they’re getting trusted with volume in their rookie year. Even Arthur Smith has started respecting Bijan a little, which says a lot…
