I’m looking to upgrade my earbuds and buy something modern, but I am fairly privacy conscious and avoid downloading unnecessary apps when possible, especially when it comes to big tech. I usually prioritize FOSS repositories and github projects.

I’m noticing that all the big earbud providers nowadays want you to download an app to use their earbuds, and if you dont you lose a lot of functionality like ANC. Is there a way around this? Are there any popular Github projects that work as alternatives? Generally, I’m most interested in the Galaxy buds2 pro, pixel buds pro, and the Sony xm5; but I’ll look at alternatives if there is an open-source way to utilize their functions.
