I’ve had a reMarkable 1 for quite a while and am thinking about getting a reMarkable 2 with the connect subscriber discount that’s going on right now. The biggest issue I’m wondering that got fixed is where 20% of the digitizer’s area is unusable because ~1 cm around all four edges have no calibration, so the only way you can use it is to write elsewhere on screen and then tediously select it and move it to the edge. Honestly a complete showshopper if the rM 2 still has that much useless area, I’d expect it to be at most ¼–½ cm.
Also, is the build quality of the rM 2 better? I don’t like how the rM 1 display doesn’t have much reinforcement behind it so it distressingly flexes when pressed; I’m perpetually worried it’ll get squished and destroyed in my backpack. I actually saw an rM 2 IRL today when chatting with somebody and it did look quite a bit better-built.
(And yes, 21% is unusable, the screen is 20.8x15.6 cm or 325 cm^2, and with a 1 cm unusable border you have 256 cm^2 of usable area, which is 78.8% of the full area or 21.2% unusable).
Oh yeah, I’m not planning on throwing it like a frisbee or anything XD, I just get worried that the screen has so much flex that with a slight pressure just from normal carrying around will break the screen or a circuit board behind it or something. Nice to know that it’s built a lot better, I’ll probably end up upgrading to an rM 2 since I otherwise like the rM 1 (just don’t like parts of the general build quality).
