I really like the management side of things a lot more than I like the building side of things, but it seems like 90% of the things labeled a tycoon or management sim are focused on spending a lot of the time making things pretty. I like Planet Zoo, but it’s frustrating to have to build a habitat for 3 hours to get the result I want from managing guest flow. I like Espresso Tycoon, but the personality traits don’t do anything and all demographics continue to show up equally regardless of how much you cater to one.
Rimworld is the closest to what I want, but even then, the only way to get them to defend themselves against the onslaught of enemies is to control them individually. Removing or limiting those waves of enemies of course fucks the game balance.
I really want employees to be treated like employees. People with hours, personalities that can conflict, preferences, talents, and skills. I really want the demographics to honestly just *exist* and be affected by my actions. Basically, sometimes I just want to fulfill the role that actual upper/middle management would. Not construction, coffee-making, or battle.
My gaming experience is not ruined by this not existing. I just want it so badly, and every time I think I’ve found it, it isn’t what I thought.
I am extremely intimidated by dwarf fortress but have considered it.
What sets it apart from rimworld, other than the more silly and fantasy related setting?
