If you haven’t been following along, PFF has always graded Madubuike low. Even though he’s been dominating this season his PFF grade was around 60 (mediocre) even after last weeks Browns game. Now his grade is at 71. A single game can’t change your grade that highly this deep in the season.
Did they purposefully adjust his grade to match the eye test? Kind of makes PFF’s methodology useless if that’s how they do things
Pff has a lot of inherent issues in how they grade, which are well documented. They are subjective, and for reference only, relying on them as undeniable data or a statistic is just not sensible.
They don’t know the play calls for defence, they don’t know the responsibilities, they don’t know how guys are coached to react to certain things, and they over value turnovers, penalties, and other optically large events, while under valuing high leverage plays, like critical 4th and 3rd downs, just as an example.
Madabuike was being heavily hit by a few penalties at the start of the year is probably part of it. They dragged his pff score down enormously, because to them a 15 yard facemask is more impactful than a 9 yard sack, even if the facemask may have prevented a 30 yard gain, again for example.
