Been a Saints fan since way before this era but wasn’t on reddit.

What was the sentiment of the subreddit at this point? After 3 7-9 seasons in a row. Was Sean Payton’s firing called for? Moving on from Drew? I’m sure a constant shitting on the defence but just curious.

They had won a Super Bowl, so that’s a big difference.

I was on reddit for the 2016 season and all I don’t remember a lot of people calling for Sean’s job but the majority of the hate was at the drafts and defense and defensive coordinator. I remember the 2017 draft when a lot of this sub was confused on why we spent a high 3rd round pick on a RB when we got Ingram. I remember a lot of us being pissed a team jumped ahead of us and took Rueben Foster so we had to settle for Ram.

I don’t think that a lot of Payton hate started purely due to him being as frustrated with the defenses at the time as we were. He was trying hard to build a complimentary team and was firing/hiring/screaming at DCs all the time.

We were blaming the poor defensive schemes. At that time we did not have good cornerbacks for the coverage they were using, they were burned in man coverage and were lost in zone coverage, that changed after the 2017 draft and DA as defensive coordinator lol. But people did not really blame Sean Payton like they are for DA, a Superbowl ring and exciting offense tend to give you a pass.
