Hey guys, as title says the girlfriends car died the other day. I tried diagnosing but can’t figure out what’s going on. Mechanic coming tomorrow said it may be broken timing belt. So I opened up the timing cover as much as I could, belt has some give when I push on it with a screwdriver but it’s not loose enough to pull up or push in. Gave it a crank and belt didn’t move at all.

Any thoughts what this could be? She’s hoping the car isn’t a write off, I told her if the belt broke it’s essentially not worth the fix. But if it’s not that and something else might be good news for her.
