It’s always had the hot spots, but recently, it has been abysmally awful. You talk about liking a game, and you have several people wishing for your public execution. You have a positive opinion on one platform, fans of the other platform hunt you like rabid rabbits. It’s actually wild.
It has gotten even worse over this past week. You can’t say a damn positive thing about stuff like Starfield or Hogwarts Legacy without being considered the gaming equivalent of a nazi at this point. Hell, say you enjoy anything relating to Xbox and your post becomes a battleground just because you like the less popular option. Same goes for the others as well, though to a lesser extent.
And this is causing people who like said stuff to become hyper defensive on it. Look at the Lies of P sub, they go crazy with any criticism that game receives and think it is better than God himself. The situation is so unbelievably toxic that “No Sodium” subs are just expected at this point.
Where can one just have a chill discussion about games without getting bombarded by a bunch of keyboard warriors? I just want to talk games but none of the big subs are chill at this point
Yes, it has become rather toxic.
I think a big part of the problem is that despite a big community of long time hardcore gamers being on Reddit or other forums, the casual player is not here.
And the casual player represents a massive segment of game sales, and maybe even more, micro transaction participators.
So developers respond to the money, and not the opinions of gamers expressed here. Thus, the community gets more and more disconnected and disenfranchised by the state of gaming.
Anger, resentment, frustration are born.
On reddit that’s definitely the case.
