Not worse at the game, but worse as people?

Sometimes I go on a loss streak on my role, but wanna keep playing and not feel so punished because I wasn’t having the sweatiest DPS game of all time. The obvious answer is to switch to Quick Play, and I get that, but as someone who didn’t start playing competitive until I was well past 500 hours deep into Overwatch, I’ve been playing more comp to work on becoming more comfortable with competitive in prep for the season 9 changes.

All that to say, on four separate occasions I’ve joined the open queue lobby and been needlessly insulted; just absolutely flamed.

Why does it feel like Open Queue people are so angry at everyone about everything?

Even in games where I switch when I’m asked to, or have the most elims or low deaths or what have you, people are just throwing insults at me or whoever else.

If we are talking about comp, I’ve noticed Role Queue has far more toxic people than Open Queue.

    On console at least,

Open Queue players are all playing their own hero, their own game, solo carrying as much as they can, and they KNOW they signed up for the game mode with no coordination, so they all just do their own thing and there’s rarely anything said in chat.

Role Queue players KNOW there should be good teamwork in the game mode they picked, so they are highly focused on the teams perform over their own, so they are always in chat criticizing their teammates every decision.

I don’t know if it’s like that on PC, but the logic I give supports my claims as to why it’s like this on console at least.

That’s totally fair. I imagine on console it might just be inconvenient enough to type things into text chat that people just don’t think it’s worth it. 😅
