Winter tires for my oldtimer

Hello all!

Are studded winter tires better for a car that weighs 2251 LBS / 1021 KG rather than winter tires without studs? I live in area where 7 months we have snow and ice and so far non-studded have been ok driving both city and interstate but for cars 2x heavier, what is your experience with light cars in the heavy snow? Just trying to prepare for winter.
