I hope this question hasn’t been asked before. If so, apologies and just point me to the relevant link.

I want to export files to my computer in a way that allows me to re-import these files at a later date and have the files still be normal reMarkable files. If I turn them into a PDF when I export them, I assume they come back onto the tablet as a PDF which means I can’t erase or edit the original document.

I use the tablet for lecture notes (I’m a teacher) and I want to use it to save old notes, call them back for a later class and edit and refine them like any other document and it seems I can’t do that with a PDF.

Any advice is appreciated.

The easiest way would be to use RCU to download the notes as .rmn files. You won’t be able to do much with them on the computer, BUT you can upload them later (again, using RCU) and they’ll still be just as edit-able as they are now.

The alternative is to ssh into the tablet, manually download the set of files from which make up the document, and then later upload the same set of files to restore them. This page contains enough details that, if you’re comfortable working with a Linux command line, you should be able to find them.

The site also has an rm2-list script which can show you the UUIDs of your documents, so you know which set of files to download.
