It does cause quite a lot of fear and unease, but people don’t always respond to fear with mass panic IRL. Look at 9/11. No one in New York was panicking and causing chaos (unless of course they were near the WTC during the attack) if anything people were more kind of dazed and confused and then it brought them together in solidarity in the aftermath. Now if there were actual Viltrumite warships hanging over Earth ready to attack then it would probably be different.
Not to mention that the people of earth are used to massive threats to the planet like the other commenter said. For most people life goes on and “it will get taken care of like it always does” is probably the main sentiment.
