I remember the hype coming out of duke, how teams were tanking for him, the “generational” talent/prospect talks. How by this time Zion would either be the straight up face of the league or one of them. Definitely a top ten player and more than likely a top 5 player by now. That basically didn’t happen, he’s been surpassed by other young players since. I legit remember several Who would you rather have going forward Luka or Zion threads. It’s crazy
Why is he playing significantly below his career averages this season? Have the injuries taken their toll? Is he still not in good shape? Or is it too early in the season to make a judgment?
I like how we’re saying this after he’s averaging 21/6/4 this season (not factoring in the stat-loss due to blowouts) after only playing 29 games last season. Meanwhile, he continues to have social media attention for some of his dunks this season.
People don’t want to talk about someone playing good ball, they only want to talk about his downfall.
I mean if this makes you feel better about your miserable life then sure I think it is crazy. Meanwhile in reality Zion is still an all-star who, when he wasn’t injured averaged 27 on great efficiency and defense in two separate seasons. Even now, for a slow start after an injury, he is averaging 21 so I am afraid you will have to find another player to make clickbaity sensational dumb Reddit posts.
I assume he’ll be right up there if he can stay healthy and keep playing in games. I remember watching his debut when I was still in undergrad and I feel like he’s hardly played since then.
When he went to dunk that steal he got from Luka, I felt worry and sadness.
After that, I felt a deep longing in my heart.
the common denominator of greatness is playing games.
There’s been a big revisionist history on Zion especially with the Wemby hype. People saying “Wemby is the most hyped prospect since Lebron, haven’t seen a more generational prospect in decades.” People forget, Zion had the same hype too, Obama went to one of his Duke games, Rachel Nichols tried to start a “ZION ZION ZION” chant during the draft lottery. NBA gave the Pelicans of all teams so many prime time games. He was so hyped, yet he faded away.
Seems like the first time in Z’s life people looked at him side-eye and he’s not taking it very well. He’s got to let go of what he can’t control.
I wonder if the Pels will consider trading him at some point?
Yes because new is always exciting in sports. The old proven players are not exciting you feel like you know what they are capable of
Guy can’t stay healthy. He’s in his 4th season and has only played 123 games. Whenever he can play he shows why he was so hyped up, but he needs to play a consistent stretch for anyone to really care.
Speak for yourself. I actively seek out Pelicans games to watch him and so do plenty of people I know.
I sure hope he comes back on top but with his recent comment about “buying in”, he is a clown. He needs to prove himself first, guy hasnt done anything but sign a big contract.
Tbh, i think this is the best thing for him. Just lowkey get this shit together and start playing whole seasons
The kid had a Jordan sig during his rookie year. That’s pretty nuts.
