Firstly, apologies if this is not an appropriate place to be asking this question. Getting straight to the point, I was planning on getting a Framework 16 for my next laptop, I know I should have placed my preorder in earlier but life gets busy and I forgot. My current laptop, a Macbook Pro 16 (2018) is starting to get rough, Charging is not always consistent, the butterfly keyboard is starting to double type/unresponsive etc. Most of all it’s struggling to keep up with my workload which is video editing. I recently have gotten new clients and I know I’m going to need a new laptop soonish. I still want to get a Framework later but I’m currently unsure what to do as of now. I was considering M3 since I’m already on Mac.

Do you know why it is getting rought to work on it? More work or is the mac slower? If it’s the later one, you should try cleaning it.

Is it impossible to wait a few months until your FW arrives, or do you need it right now?

If you need it right now, the FW16 won’t be there in time.

Do you work stationary? If yes, consider buying a PC/Mac with a better cooling solution and a better chip than mobile devices.

If you work mobile, you should ask yourself if you can switch from Mac in order to save some money. If not, buy an M3 or an M2 machine. Depending on the shop you could get some pretty good deals for M2.

If you can switch and need some battery life, you could use a FW13 AMD edition. You could go with a workstation laptop but your battery life will be pretty bad. Only a few hours most of the time.

I would say look at the Framework 13 instead. If you can’t wait, get an Intel version. If you can probably wait a month or so, get an AMD Ryzen version.
