I’m really struggling to understand how our Pack could come out and play defense the way they did against the Steelers.

I don’t watch a lot of Steelers games but a couple weeks ago they were on primetime and I knew we were facing them soon so I figured I would watch the game. Almost immediately, I could tell their running backs would give us trouble. Warren especially as he was giving me Aaron Jones vibes.

Here’s what makes no sense to me. Going into the Steelers game, the Steelers offense is known for not being good. But they do have some good running backs. If you’re a defensive coordinator, wouldn’t you go into this game saying, “If we get beat. It’s not going to be on the ground. We’re not going to make it easy on them.” ?

How do you not come out, sell out against the run and cover everything underneath (having nobody covering the underneath checkdowns was also brutal), making Kenny Pickett have to try to beat you deep?

I guess I just don’t get it. Wouldn’t allowing them to constantly run for 5-10 yards, and then when they do pass, allowing another 5-10 yards before we even have a defender in the area be making it the absolute easiest we could possibly make it for a struggling offense to succeed against us?

Does he not specifically plan for the opponent we’re about to face? Is there no strategy? If seems like we trot out the same base nickel defense every week and he just tells our guys good luck.

I understand playing preventative defense against a QB like Mahomes. But how is it not obvious to our coordinator that going into that Steelers game, Warren and the run game was what we had to prioritize stopping first?

I just don’t get it man. What are we doing out there?

TL DR; fire Joe Barry.

Personnel : Not good enough to stop the run with many weak links in both run defense and tackling

Joe B. Schemes: Not ever done well enough to cover up the Packers defensive deficiencies, and mainly designed to stop the big explosive plays in pass game.

HC: MLF stubbornly refuses to make changes at DC or admit he hired the wrong guy, and to make it worse he got all salty with the media when asked why his run defense vs. The Steelers was so shit.

TLDR: Our run D personnel is super weak, our DC’s scheme is terrible against the run, and our HC is a stubborn fool about the DC.

He was the defensive coordinator for the Lions when they went 0-16 in 2008. He should have never been allowed to coach anything other than a high school team after that. The apologists like to throw out we are 12th in this stat and 7th in that stat. Stop, just stop. This defense is loaded with 1st round talent any success is in spite of Dinglebarry.

After watching this season I have also lost all faith in LaFleur. All the success he had during his first three years was in spite of his game plan. Rodgers killing goofy ass plays that he calls at the worst time makes a lot of sense now. Adams, Bank, and Jones helped win all those games too.

It won’t happen but a new coaching staff should be in control next year while the guys are still young and learning a new system now instead of two or three years from now. LaFleur is softer than baby shit, his game plans and play calling are atrocious. Players don’t respect him. I feel he lost the locker room after the lions game. I never hear players give any praise to the coaching staff for having them prepared. I never thought this would be my take for this year but this coaching staff has to go because they are holding this roster back.

Look at Barry’s coaching history. It makes sense. Sometimes he doesn’t put players in the right position.

His game plan this week made no sense.
