I hope Obi does well. But for this team, and with Brunson vs. Hali, he wasn’t and isn’t the answer. I wish that people could just be happy for both guys and recognize that they are both in the right situation for them and for their teams.
For those who are interested, here are the numbers for each for the last 4 games - since Randle started to come out of his slump (which also coincides with 2 of Obi’s best games).
Obi - 56 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals in 90 minutes. Per 36 minutes per game numbers - 22.32 points, 2.88 rbs, 0.72 assist, and 1.08 steals. 4 of 6 FTs (1.5 FTs per game) and 77 TS%.
Randle - 98 points, 40 rebounds, 18 assists, 0 blocks, 4 steals in 133 minutes. Per 36 minute per game numbers - 26,52 points, 10.8 rbs, 4.9 Assists, 0 Blocks and 1.08 steals. 26 of 33 FTs (8.25 FTs per game) and 55 TS%.
Obi’s shooting has been incredible, but every other metric favors Randle. I wish Obi could have played the 3 or that either he or Randle could protect the rim, but neither was happening here. So I will root for Obi, except when the Pacers play the Knicks and will root for the Knicks (and Randle) always.
