I’m in need of a new car and here in my country (live in Europe), car prices are bonkers. Used cars sometimes cost more than a new one, and even a beaten up 10 to 20 year old model will still cost around 30% to 50% of a brand new one. So… I’ve decided to buy a brand new Toyota. It will cost a bit more, but I’d rather pay full price for something new than pay full price for a 4 year old car.

Which Toyota model is worth getting new? We only have the European models around here, so Aygo, Yaris, Yaris Cross, C-HR, Corolla, Corolla Cross, RAV4, and I found a rare GR86. All are hybrids except the Aygo and GR86. There’s also the Supra and some heavy duty trucks, but these will be a pain to drive on tiny roads and in city traffic.

My budget is pretty flexible, but my timeframe isn’t. I need it pretty soon, and I don’t have all the choice in the world. This is what’s available right now:

  • A Yaris (1.5 Hybrid) will cost me around €25k
  • A Corolla (1.8 Hybrid) full optional will cost me around €32k
  • A GR86 (2.4 NA) will cost me around €40k

All prices are final including all taxes and fees. Apart from this there are some used CH-Rs and RAV4s, but they cost minimum €30k and are from 2019 with almost 100k km, and they’re just the basic trim. They could get some newer models soon, but nobody knows.

What do you think?

Im in Canada and I have the rav4 AWD which is amazing in the winter. I’m going to take a guess that you are in the Deutsches Reich? The Yaris would be great there… my previous vehicle is a Yaris. I still have it actually.

I’d go Yaris. Sounds like it’s 99% commuter with occasional need to ferry 4. And you want something that can be fun. Well, every single driving cost will be low with the Yaris. It can ferry 4. And small, lightweight cars are fun in their own way
