There are times in the show where MPB seems like he’s very emotionally mature, almost the voice of reason when talking to one of the characters. Then there are times where either the butt of the joke or just really good at playing stupid. From his word plays, to his scatter brained ideas with Todd, to the crew neck/v neck discussion with Bojack. I think it’s just hard to know how to take his character

Neither. He is avoidant AF, and avoids introspection as part of that. He is a social butterfly but he lacks the self reflection to have truly fulfilling close relationships.

Yeah, his happy-go-lucky goofball exterior is his shield. He never really learned how to process negative emotions or deal with the uncomfortable parts of life because his family shielded him from things for so long.

He’s the other side of the coin from Bojack. Bojack grew up not knowing how to feel good, PB grew up not knowing how to feel bad.

While that doesn’t sound so bad, it left him pretty emotionally stunted and unprepared for what life throws at him.

I know this is just a tv show discussion but, I stopped thinking of people in terms of smart and dumb. Some people are smarter than others but everyone has something. Mister Peanutbutter is carefree, a little oblivious but not stupid.
