This is an ancient LoJack on my 1999 Ranger. I want to remove it but am stumped about the wires.

It was installed behind the glove box.

LoJack has been helpful, and told me “The device should be connected to power and go to an antenna. The markings should indicate an LJU or VLU unit. It seems that this is an older model so it should not have any additional parts besides the main unit and antenna.” They also said they don’t have any wiring diagrams for these old units anymore.

But I’m puzzled by the untwisted black/red wires. The antenna and the twisted wires go behind the radio unit, and I’m guessing that the twisted pair is power to the unit via the unswitched 12v outlet next to the radio. The other pair comes from the same place as the twisted wires, but goes straight back through what may be the firewall (can’t see the other end though).

Any idea about what the wires might be attached to? Maybe a backup battery? I just don’t want to cut something that may cause new problems.

Thanks.

I’m open to all suggestions.

My thought is that it’s 12v out but I don’t want to short anything by cutting it.

I have yet to remove the radio and check the twisted pair. The antenna doesn’t want to pull out.
