Just wondering if anyone knows the situation a little better to help me better understand my options. I just got a job offer that requires me to be a resident in my current state. I’ll be using this income to qualify for housing in another state. It’s not a prestigious position, and I do plan to continue looking until I find something better. The job is fully remote, and I will still only be about 6 hours away if I ever MUST show up for any incidental reason.
I’ve casually lived in other states in the past and never changed anything to indicate I was living there. I know there isn’t a straightforward answer, and a lot will depend on the company’s enforcement and the state laws. Is it typically possible to maintain a residence in a state in which you’re not living? How exactly is this sort of thing defined, and to what extent could I represent myself as a resident of my original state after moving to the new one?
