All in the title. In discussion with a few friends, I mentioned that I was rooting for Liverpool in '05 in the CL final against AC Milan, and people were surprised… it seems this is not as common as I thought.
So, what’s your attidute towards your clubs’ local rivals when they are in continental competitions?
Absolutely not.
Now if some random team that I don’t particularly dislike (Crystal Palace?) were to make a run in one of the European competitions? Sure, why not - especially if they are playing against a club I don’t like from another country.
It might sound a bit plastic but I support spurs whenever they’re not playing us. One because I know they aren’t winning the league defeating us. Second I can’t help but empathize with them. I am an Indian and I support a similar team to Spurs in the IPL(Indian Premier League) , Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB). They have never won IPL despite being one of the best sides , having arguably the greatest player of this era(Virat Kohli) along with the other two of the best T20 batters of all time, also having the third largest fanbase of any team. So yeah I always support spurs when they’re not playing City.
Liverpool fan I was rooting for United when they beat Bayern as that Bayern team were insufferable ego maniacs. But I was cheering for Chelsea until they lost.
I was rooting for Liverpool in Istanbul. If I had known how insufferable their fans would be in the future, I wouldn’t have.
I want them to lose
Mostly no, though for the likes of Villa and Wolves I will. It depends on the club. I did really love Poch’s Spurs and seeing Kane score at the Bernabeu for example
Liverpool, both Manc clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, WHU, Newcastle, Brighton absolutely not
Rule in my house is “anyone except Arsenal”
We hold fast to that one in any competition. I will however support American players if they are on Arsenal but playing for my country.
