good morning everyone, I would like to build a NAS and start understanding what services to use for my first homelab… I would like to experiment a bit since it would be my first build and I wouldn’t want to spend a lot. I was thinking of a solution like an optiplex 3060 with i3 8100… I need to understand how to connect more than 2x 3.5 HDDs… I got lost among the various nvme, sata, esata etc. adapters… if anyone can help me with the purchase or any TIPS, Better build suggestion I would be grateful.

P.s.: Sorry for bad english

    Hello!

Some of those optiplex only have like 2 slots for drives, check out an extension card (PCI-Express) for adding more drives.

Or go with a cheap used Dell or Lenovo tower that has several sata connections (you use one for each drive), find out by checking the technical documentation for the one you might want to buy.

Otherwise, just start out with what you have, you will have plenty of opportunities to learn and check out stuff IMO.

If I understood correctly you have a couple of drives, get an external case for on of them and use it for a backup when you’re experimenting.
