Despite the shade thrown at it, the portal is pretty rad. It looks goofy, but ergonomically it’s way better than the deck. The dual sense feels exactly like playing on console and that’s a big draw. It’s also very light and the screen looks really awesome.

This sub suggested I try Chiaki and that revitalized my ps5 gaming using the deck, but it was really buggy band annoying to deal with.

My big issue with the portal, and where I appreciate the deck even more now, is in the actual streaming. I live rural and internet is a challenge, but I’ve got a decent connection now. It was averaging about 60-70 down and 10 up while I was playing gran turismo 7. The portal does a good job of not stuttering the gameplay if it’s losing connection, but the resolution was periodically dropping to a point where I couldn’t see what was going on. It’s a more convenient, more comfortable way to play your ps5 if you can’t use the tv or want to lay in bed etc. it’s an awesome piece of tech, but entirely dependent on your internet.

There are moments when the portal streaming the ps5 probably looks better than the deck. But dang, it really makes me appreciate the deck for what it is. Not having to stream the games is a big draw. Not to mention the PlayStation store can suck it, whereas the steam store is the best thing on earth.

Also, the portal doesn’t have big loud fans. Take that as a plus or minus as you will.
