Customer reached out to me about procuring and delivering a product. I was not aware until half way through payment process that the client was an interior designer.
Client provided address, without failing to mention that I was delivering directly to the homeowner. I charged my client a substandard delivery fee, since she had purchased an item before.
I arrive, and realize her + her client + the owner of the design firm were there. I felt a bit thrown off by the whole thing, as they started asking me to move the product around because it didn’t work in a particular spot. Then it was realized that the product was too tall for the space. The firm owner asked me if this was the correct height, and luckily my client stepped in to handle that.
I ended up telling the client that my involvement in this was limited to just delivering the item, and that anything beyond that was outside of my scope. She seemed confused by my prompt and my desire to quickly leave the situation.
I don’t know if I mishandled the situation, or I’m overthinking it. Ultimately, it seemed a bit deceptive to not inform me that I was being roped in to her design project. It’s one thing to deal with a client directly, but it’s another thing to realize that I now am liable for dealing with her client and any questions related to the product.
