Obviously the length of time it took for replacement shells for the OG Deck to be released should give us some indication - anyone know how long they took to come out after the first Decks shipped?

I expect it’ll be quicker this time, since they’ll have existing designs they can start from, and they have a clearer idea of demand, but how much quicker? I’m thinking around half the time. What do other people think?

The estimates would be different. The first shells only came out earlier this year which is a year after the steam decks shipped. Doesn’t mean it’ll take a year though. No one knew how popular it’d be until months later, plus not everyone could even get their hands on one until later in 2022 when the restrictions were lifted. The Steam Deck and it’s accessories are now established as profitable, so if current shells aren’t compatible with it I’d reckon they’re working on shells now.

Extreme rate announced shells in May 2022, were available for preorder in June 2023 and released them in July. So it could take up to a year. Though it’s possible they learned a lot on how to make them properly. So it’ll likely take less time. Can’t give exact dates other than, probably less than a year from now.
