Last night at the CLE game, I saw my usual go-to favorite parking spot get ruined. Sad - walking back from the game down Wheeler street across from the stadium (that dark street down the hill past the upright brewing bldg + portland school district offices), was broken window after broken window. Our old beater Prius was spared, probably because we clearly had nothing in it and didn’t leave anything in plain sight. But I feel for all the people who had backpacks etc stolen, or whatever it might have been. I’ve never seen thievery on that scale, hitting what must have been 20-30 cars all at once like that. Crazy. So much glass. Come on Portland Police - we need a good ol’ fashioned stakeout! We don’t want Rip City to come to mean something else… Regardless, I will be throwing it in a paid lot next game, for sure! Not worth the risk these days.
That sucks, especially as there’s usually a line of police cruisers down the northeast east side of the stadium just a block or two away. You’d think they’d have fewer officers in Moda Center, and more patrolling the nearby streets, parking lots and garages. I’ve yet to have a problem parking at the transit center near the convention center and paying $5 for a day pass on Max.
Patrols aren’t very effective as thieves can just wait for them to leave. Average PPB response time is 21 minutes. Park in a different area or accept the risk while planning ahead and leaving belongings at home prior.
Let’s be real, they would be back out on the street the same day with no consequences
