I has an opportunity to move to either Belgium or the Netherlands and am trying to understand the tax implication coming from the US (my job will be based in either Belgium or the Netherlands). I know there are federal tax implications but should mostly be offset with tax credits based on tax I pay in the EU country. I’m more concerned about potential state tax implications. I do own a home and plan to rent it so I do need to pay tax in my home state for that, but I’m not sure how residency in state works for this type of move… I would think once I make the move to the EU, from that day on, I would think my residency in my home state should end and begin in the EU (at least for tax on the income I get from my new job in the EU). I want to understand what the implications are in terms of taxes (state and federal) in order to have an idea of what kind of salary may make sense… If anyone has insights or resources on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
