Here are 5 guys that could be absorbed by the Grant Williams 6.2m TPE.
Dean Wade - 6’9’’ PF 26yrs
22-23: 5.1ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.0apg, on 41/35/61 shooting
Wade is a guy a lot of contenders would want as their 9th - 10th man. He comes in, plays 15 - 20 minutes of frantic hustle ball, and potentially fouls out. He may also hit a 3 and a free throw in that time. Hes often first to the floor and just sticks his nose into everything. Hes involved with the play almost the entire time hes out there. The Cavs really like him and dont have a reason to trade him, unless theyre loading up on draft picks to be buyers this off-season and want an asset to make a move later. Rumor is Donovan Mitchell plans on moving, and Cleveland may want to bring in a big name to make him stay.
Chuma Okeke - 6’8’’ F 25yrs
22-23: 4.7ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.6apg on 35/30/67 shooting
Okeke was a 16th overall pick just a few years ago, and played decently well in 2 seasons in Orlando. Unfortunately for him in the seasons since he was drafted, Orlando drafted Frans Wagner and Paolo Banchero, and suddenly there was absolutely nothing but garbage minutes for him. The Celtics have room for a young player to develop a bit and could be worth bringing in Okeke at the deadline and carrying him into next season/summer league. He has great size. This could end up giving him one of those 3 year non guaranteed deals to get a good look at him through the offseason.
Jalen Smith - PF/C 6’10" 23yrs
22-23: 9.4ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.0apg, on 48/28/76 shooting
I have no idea what the deal with with Jalen Smith, but i know we talk about him every year. On paper hes a 6’10" shooting big with decent rebounding and mobility, but for some reason Phoenix bailed on him less than 2 seasons in, and Indiana hasn’t seen enough to play him 20mpg. The Celtics need another rotational big man, especially since it looks like they wanna play big this year (which i love). In all honesty, Kornet is a better screener and passer than Smith, but Smith is a better shooter and rebounder. I have no clue what the cost would be but i have no doubt Indiana is gonna sell on the idea of Smtih and not his actual production.
Mason Plumlee - 6’11" C 33yrs
22-23: 10.8ppg, 8.9rpg, 3.1apg on 68/-/64 shooting
Mason Plumlee would absolutely round out our roster. Hes a good passer for a big, and hes a great rebounder. The Clippers are looking for assets to trade to Philly for James Harden and there are a lot of variable and moving pieces to that potential deal. Forwarding an asset to Philly and taking Plumlee into the TPE could be used to facilitate sending James Harden to the other conference. Reportedly the Clippers have been looking to move players for assets to sweaten a Harden deal.
Andre Drummond - 6’10" C 30yrs
22-23: 6.0ppg, 6.6rpg, .5apg, on 60/0/54 shooting
The days of starting C Andre Drummond averaging a double double and shoving his own teammates out of the way to get his reblunding numbers up are done. What you have left is a low minutes hustle beast who fights for offensive rebounds. Chicago is 1 game in and already holding players only meetings. This thing in Chicago is clearly not built to last and for ownership im sure it would be appealing to cut 3m in salary without taking anything back. Once Chicago slides a bit more, Drummond could be had for a conditional 2nd round pick.
Kenrich Williams
1 I don’t think OKC has any interest in trading him, they just gave him a long term deal and seem to really like him
2 he fits this year, but has a salary that increases beyond 6.2m starting next year. I honestly don’t know what the rules are on using the TPE like that
