It seems like I’ve been a little bit slow to understand and maybe got down voted on some other topics but it’s just because I didn’t fully understand. I own my own company, so I make enough money to live in most countries, and I can manage that business from pretty much any country. What I didn’t realize was that would actually be illegal in many cases to do anything related to my own business. I mistakenly thought that work visas were for obtaining employment inside China.

Would there be some situations where I could obtain a visa to be able to work on my own business while I am living in China? I don’t want to employ anybody except myself and I’m very financially secure. I don’t even need to work very much at this juncture.

Would there be any situations where I could work as a consultant for a Chinese business without having fixed hours? I already have a few contacts in China that would like me to help them and they would be willing to pay me, but as of today I have not accepted any work.

The main mistake I have made that I didn’t know about was I answered some emails and took a couple of phone calls. I’m going to Hong Kong this weekend and I don’t even know if I’m allowed to answer the phone there either? I’m assuming there’s a little bit of common sense here and a couple of routine tasks is not gonna be the type of thing where I’m gonna have the authorities sweep in.

But I very much would like to understand how I can do things legally. It seems like a lot of people own their own business, and they travel all over the world. For example, there are people who make YouTube channels, and they make their money by making travel related videos . Are they maybe getting a business visa every time they travel to another country?

So I’m a little confused. Maybe there is a good way to do this and I just missed it so far.
