a friend of mine has an acer laptop that he doesn’t need anymore and say it’s broken. from what i besides the broken hinges, the cooler is screaming and the hdd is dead. i asked him how tf did he manage to break the hard drive in 4 years of use because the laptop was used for some light gaming and general use all the time at a desk, never leaving that desk, and he told me that sometimes when the cooler started to scream for no reason he punched at the top where the cooler was (and the hdd is close to the cooler so).

the battery holds a charge for 30 minutes because he used it plugged in since he got it 4 years ago, the screen is usable even though the angles are trash

it has the following specs:

cpu: i5-8265u with it’s integrated graphics

ram: 8gb at 2.4ghz most likely single channel with no upgrade path

hdd: 2tb seagate barracuda

ik is old and can’t really be used as a portable machine anymore because of those hinges, but for the light use and media playback that i want to use it for is more than i need, i will fix it at some point or transform it in something new but i don’t have time for that

so how much should i pay for it? i was thinking somewhere around 150-200 euros

It sounds like the fix ups are fairly major. I know in US has super low prices, but here you can get a 24 month old model for about $250.00 on eBay from Acer’s eBay site or a private seller that does sell certified refurbished. You can also get a refurbished Thinkpad or Latitude for $350.
