I have an Fujitsu Futro S920. I want to use it as my router. So I want to add an Mellanox ConnectX-3 to it. I already have an PCI riser needed for the S920.

I want to know your opinion about the heat of this card. Because the S920 is a thin client it doesn’t have any fans.

Also does anyone know how long the Mellanox ConnectX-3 is? Because the S920 max PCI lenght is 155 mm.

I’m propably first gonna use it with 1gbit copper. So i’ll have to buy a 1gbit module. Later on I want to upgrade my network to 10gbit copper. Maybe it doesn’t produce that much heat when running at 1gbit? But I heard the modules can also produce some heat.

This is the exact card i wanted to buy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/404586537639

Is there also a downside to IBM? I heard that you need specific Modules for specific cards. Are all the modules the same for Mellanox ConnectX-3? Or is there a difference between the different brands?

Also, as read in the manual. The Max power available through SFP+ port is 1W. I want to use a module to RJ45. ServeTheHome here has a chart that shows that these modules use 3 watt. So is this card even possible to use with RJ45 modules?
