No way around the fact that Andrews being out for the season is a huge loss. But there’s too much talent on the roster to throw in the towel re: Super Bowl aspirations. The area where we’ll probably miss Andrews the most is the short-intermediate game. Likely and Kolar will obviously be expected to pick up the slack in that area, but it should also represent an opportunity to get Bateman and Beckham more involved. Bateman has looked less explosive after the injury but has shown that he can still get open with some consistency on ~10-15 yd routes. Beckham has made plays over the middle field and will have to do that in Andrews’ absence. I think missing Andrews will also force us to be more efficient on deep passes. No team is particularly scared of us taking shots bc we miss most of them. Improving in that area may be a long shot, but now is the best time for us to make adjustments and clean up the unforced errors. We have the mini-bye this week and our bye after the Chargers game. The players need a lot of rest so it’s not like they’re going to practice on most days of those byes, but we should have some extra time work on deep passes. Monken should also have the time to make some schematic tweaks to compensate for losing Andrews. And if our defense keeps their level we shouldn’t have to rely on the offense going for 30+ every game. Sure the run defense could be better but it does seem like there’s an intention in the scheme to encourage the run so the opponent takes more plays and more time to score. (Our ppg attests to this.) Again, there’s no way to sugarcoat the loss of Andrews and this post isn’t supposed to be about silver linings. But there are ways to make up for his production and I don’t think we need to give up the Super Bowl dream—the players certainly won’t.

As sad as it is that we lost Mandrews, I’m still confident we can make a run. 1. I’m hopeful that we might see him again in January, he was able to walk off the field so that was a big relief. Even if that’s just wishful thinking we still have some dawgs in every other position. Lamar has a receiving core that can make things happen, Likely has shown promise, and our run game is still doing what needs to be done.

So while sad, the course is still the course, and I’m not panicking.
