So the latest update combines these features into one slider, and I wanted to clarify something.
In the previous UI, you could set the Hz and let the game sync to the new refresh rate. This usually resulted in low input lag, assuming the game engine could deliver good frametimes.
Alternatively, if frametimes were bad, then you could do an fps limit in the OS to smooth things out. This feature is rad, but it introduces the tradeoff of really significant input delay. So you can usually choose what’s important to you.
With this new UI, it is adding the limited automatically, which I don’t love. I wanted to confirm that setting the slider and THEN checking “allow tearing” is the same as setting the Hz but not imposing a limiter at the OS level.
This seems to be working correctly, but I think this choice is confusing. Also, the Deck seems to have forgotten all my game profiles, which kinda sucks.
