I’ve currently got a series X and a 4070 laptop, is it worth picking up a handheld, if so, which one? I haven’t had any handhelds since the vita! To help, I play games off a few different DRM’s.

So, with the SD, can I play games from Epic, GoG etc also?
You might have some trouble there playing games from other places because SD is Linux based and not running games natively. It uses something called Proton to run windows games on Linux.
Proton is a compatibility layer for Windows games to run on Linux-based operating systems. Proton is developed by Valve in cooperation with developers from CodeWeavers. It is a collection of software and libraries combined with a patched version of Wine to improve performance and compatibility with Windows games. Proton is designed for integration into the Steam client as “Steam Play”. It is officially distributed through the client, although third party forks can be manually installed.
The other windows handhelds like the ROG Ally and Legion Go are native windows handhelds so you can play all the games from Epic, GoG and wherever else just like you would on your laptop.
So for emulation benefit, the Rog ally would be more compatible
