Hoping someone can help clear my cloud of confusion on this. I’ve recently got a steam deck (loving it) and have installed a Batocera image to an external hdd as a test with booting it from the usb-c port. From a Western Digital 2tb HDD it runs perfectly, the boot selection sees the drive and it boots with no issue and can use it ok. So I copied the exact same image to a 2tb M2 NVME in a usb enclosure - it’s extremely hit and miss if the Deck sees the drive at all and when it does, once booted into Batocera it hangs all the time and randomly disconnects.

The nvme and enclosure work perfectly on my laptop so I’m extremely confused as to what’s happening, I would have thought the power draw from the usb-c on the deck would be greater with a mechanical hdd than an ssd, or am I wrong?

If anyone can recommend either an enclosure confirmed working with the deck or a small adaptor to provide power to the drive if that’s likely what’s happening I would be eternally grateful

Thanks

I had a similar issue with my LCD deck. I used this adapter and it was a hit or miss if it would be recognized and, if it was, it would randomly disconnect when transferring larger files. I got an OLED deck and that has a completely new USB C issue
