I’m on Windows 10 22H2. I like to have native default programs just work as a matter of principle. Video playback should work out of the box.
I have the HEVC codec installed and also installed the K-Lite Codec pack, but I can’t get x265 HEVC files to play in the modern apps. When I try to open a file in Media Player or Movies & TV, it says “checking codec availability” for the former and “can’t play” with an error code for the latter.
Is this hardware related? Is an 8700K 1080 Ti not able to play video files in the default apps even with the codec installed?
