Today my friends and I were talking about the tight end position and what the history has been like with our favorite teams. When I think back on the Colts, I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to feel. Of course, I feel the Colts have been fortunate with players like Dallas Clark, Jack Doyle, and Marcus Pollard. But we’ve also had players like Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen, and Eric Ebron where they are notable in the league, but not great.
More or less I’m just asking if the Colts have historically been known to have great TEs, and what your opinions are because our current ones stink. Am I under appreciating our history or are we just lacklustering?
I think people really don’t understand how few great TEs there are in the league. Everyone wants a Travis Kellen but behind him there’s very few even close to his level. I think TE is a position where you can succeed just fine with an above average to good starter as long as you have a QB.
