I have changed my home network name and password (this happened a few weeks ago) but I’ve never understood what could have happened. I live in a condo if that is relevant. One morning I got a message from my ISP that a new device had connected, followed by about eight more. TVs, Alexas, computers, all simultaneously. I got on the ISP app and paused all the devices. Couldn’t remove them but I changed the network name and password as I said. No problems since then. We had a very long password with special characters and the rest. Am I to understand that someone within the confines of my router’s wifi range decided to brute force my router? And if they did, they could do it again just as easily? I’ve been studying networking as part of the CompTIA A+ certification, which is probably not relevant, but doing a little googling tells me that I should set up my router so that only my devices can pass. So, can anyone venture a guess as to what happened here?
