Context: I own a 440i with the MPPSK exhaust, so I’m speaking from experience here.

When I got my car, it was fun for a bit to get it to do the pops and bangs. But the rare times that my car doesn’t pop on downshift, it sounds so much better. It has such a great natural growl that I now wish my MPPSK exhaust didn’t pop because it just sounds incredible without it.

Now I just find the pops and bangs obnoxious and over the top, especially now that everyone and their mothers with a BMW is popping and banging.

I don’t think the opinion is unpopular, I personally really like the stock burbles or pops. What I don’t like is when people tune it to be even louder, it’s already perfect from stock (in my opinion) but when people tune it to sound like a legitimate gun then it becomes obnoxious.

I used to own a mini jcw with the pro exhaust and I loved the pops and bangs when I was younger but now the gurgle and growls of downshifts and letting off the throttle in my M2 is just beastly. Fucking love it. I agree.

I like the quiet, throaty, inoffensive burbles, but not the pops and bangs. But every stock BMW I’ve driven does the burbles, not pops and bangs

This is why BMW stopped making exciting cars. Don’t buy a sports car if you don’t want sports car noises.
