Recently had a complex electrical issue diagnosed and repaired by a popular and highly rated mechanic in my city. Essentially a fuse was blowing that was causing all dash lights to come on. Well, when I got the truck back during my lunch break I noticed the FM/AM radio wasn’t working on the drive back. I called and let them know and we scheduled a day to bring it back.

I ended up just taking apart the dash and plugging in the antenna connection to the head unit myself, since I installed the headunit originally. Figured it wasnt worth wasting a few hours at the mechanic when i know what the issue probably was.

When doing this I also noticed the 4 screws used to secure the unit to the dash were missing.

Since I already replaced the screws, and connected the radio, what kind of discount should I ask for off my bill ($1,500)? Or should I just leave a bad review?

I was understanding with the radio, but once I saw the screws were missed as well I knew this was a careless technician putting everything back together. Makes me think what else was missed considering they went through several locations of the trucks electrical system.

    [Another customer] I had a similar experience with an auto diagnostic person I really respected. He and his helper wired up my dashcam wrong (like, contrary to the manufacturer instructions which I gave them) and also wired up my rear fog lights so they depend on the headlights and not the front fog lights. When I went through the dashboard to troubleshoot, I found they also broke one of the plastic tabs on a part. Using a trim tool or just pulling the car manufacturer’s disassembly documentation would have averted breaking the part. I ended up losing respect and wondering if this is just the standard of service on offer, even from good people.
