I just moved into a housing development that is pre-wired with active Internet service. All renters must pay into a community “technology package” that includes internet service. My house has Ethernet ports prewired in each room. The wall jacks all appear to be connected to the outbound ports of a Signamax C300 switch that I found in my closet. The switch’s inbound port has two little yellow wires running off to who knows where, presumably receiving the internet supply for the house.
My leasing office is closed for the next couple of days so I can’t ask them for help right now, but what I want to do is get my own Asus GT-AC5300 router set up for a WiFi signal. I have factory reset the router and connected its inbound port to the Ethernet jack in my living room, but after running through the router’s setup wizard, the WiFi network that it is broadcasting does not have a working Internet signal. Since this is not a traditional modem arrangement, I am new to this type of network and I don’t know what else I need to do. Do I need to configure my router settings in some special way to get it working in my living room? Any help is appreciated!
