Been struggling with this for a while and while I have mentors, they haven’t really helped me with coming to an answer and I’m also picky, so it makes the answers I could have, ineffective.
Let me explain.
So my skill is shorts video editing, aka going viral on mainly TikTok, I’ve amassed millions of views, through original-creative content (I don’t make any copy-paste videos or steal content)
Here’s some past results, (this is all Tiktok and my country doesn’t have the Tiktok creator program)
- 0 -> 700k followers on Tiktok in 5 days for my own little self-improvement journey (can’t monetize that though)
- Few million view videos for my personal brand for golf
- Random tiktok accounts for gaming that get around 10-20k views every video.
So based on my success, the easy route would be to just find clients right?
Well, I did that and my clients were mostly terrible, I had 2 main clients, both of which were millionaires, and both of which I hated working for.
- Payment was late
- They were clueless as to what to do, (part of going viral is being able to talk in front of the camera well, and they sucked at this + they didn’t listen to my advice on how to film better videos)
- I didn’t believe in the product that they were selling, so I didn’t really like helping them promote it
And here’s comes the main issue, I just REALLY value authenticity, I don’t want to help some crypto bro sell a course on crypto that is total crap. I want to do good things, which is why I’ve mostly stuck to my own content but my own content doesn’t pay…
Then there was a big business that put on a contest for a short editor, and I ended up winning. The offer they gave me was $40 a short, but the shorts they wanted take like 5-6 hours to do.
So that’s terrible pay, and tbh it discouraged me because this is a 100 Million dollar business, and that was their offer…so I rejected it.
So what am I doing now?
Right now I’m directing my energy at learning the YT Long-form game, and YT shorts game (YT Shorts are a little different than Tiktok) and the plan is to earn money through that.
Since I don’t really know what to post on Yt, I’ve just started a small gaming ch dedicated to a game I like called Terraria, I’ve gained like 80 subs in a month, which is okay.
I know I could just post a “reddit stories” channel and make money with that, but idk I just feel like doing low-effort crap like that taints the soul, it would go against what I believe in as a content creator.
I’m just looking for some advice, I like marketing and content creation but I haven’t found a way to monetize it AND satisfy my values. Every client I’ve had has been a total joke and my own stuff hasn’t really put much money in my account.
