French autorities say that banning away fans for this match had little to do with the safety for Ajax fans but rather the safety for the Marseille fans. “Agressive behavior is something that is seen a lot with Ajax ultras, who mostly operate under the name ‘F-Side’. They are known as one of the most dangerous groups of Europe.”

In 2009 things already went wrong between the two clubs when Marseille and Ajax faced eachother in the UEFA cup. Ajax fans went with a big group of fans to Marseille. Ajax fans were then attacked by Marseille fans with bricks, sticks and iron bars. Ajax fans then chased Marseille fans until police showed up. In the return in Amsterdam Ajax fans held up a banner saying “We had joy we had fun, we had L’om on the run”.

Our fans haven’t been that violent in Europe recently, right?

They trashed our own stadium and forcefully suspended league games, but I can’t remember any outstanding act of violence abroad for at least a decade.

Tbh that isn’t 100% true, but yeah not that much. But the general consensus is Ajax=Dutch=Bad

Our police is just shit. There were issues with some Dutch fans on away games but it’s also up to the authorities to make sure things go well when they come.

This is a total embarrassment, combined with the scandals surrounding the French police with far-right policemen, some who murder people without facing consequences, domestic abuse, lack of hiring, etc. A complete rebuilding of the police institution is needed

Don’t take it personally Ajax bros, it’s the excuse used weeks in weeks out by our incompetent authorities to justify the ban on traveling fans. Infuriating but it really says more about Marseille and french authorities than it says about you.
